Held from 18 to 21 of October, 1972, this third Colloquium represents a great leap
forward with respect to its conception and their participants. There were 43 participants, coming
from 5 different countries (France, Great Britain, Italy, Spain and United States).
For the first time there were 9 plenary lectures by invitation, and the invited lecturers
were R. Bott (USA), C. Godbillon (France), A. Lichnerowicz (France), R. Lutz (France), G.
Reeb (France), B. L.Reinhart (USA), D.C. Spencer (USA), R. Thom (France) and T.J.
Willmore (Great Britain).
The proceedings of this Colloquium were published in the Springer-Verlag series “Lecture
Notes in Mathematics”, this being the first time that this series published the proceedings of
an event like this celebrated in Spain. A total of 22 conferences and/or communications are
